News and Updates
Eric has just completed teaching his first lecture series in Advanced Systematic Theology 1 (Christology and Soteriology). On December 11 he will begin Systematic Theology 2 (Pneumatology and Ecclesiology).
The Church serivce in the Tvrdja parish of the Reformed Christian Church in Croatia began on October 29th (Reformation Sunday). It is a small congregation to be sure, around 6 to 10 each week. We hit a peak of 18 one week (which promted Penny to observe: "wow we have a crowd!"). It is small beginning but light is flooding out of the sanctuary each and every Sunday evening.
Nancy is busy organizing the English department and handling the heavy load domestically. She does an amazing job juggling all that she has to do. If we were to choose one word to describe our life here it would be busy.
The kids are adjusting (with a few bumps here and there) to their new culture. They are picking up the language. Nancy and I have lessons two to three times a week but even so we are getting used to being "corrected" by our children.
We had Thanksgiving on a Sunday with about 20 American ex-pats (and spouses) here in Osijek. I understand it was a bit of a challenge to "hunt down" a turkey for the feast. A lovely time was had by all.
Christmas is upon us and we have already, in our small way, celebrated St. Nicholas Day on the eve of December 6. It is the Croatian custom to polish and put the boots out for St. Nicholas so he can leave some goodie there for good children. But watch out for that Krompus (devil guy) he can leave a stick if you haven't been good! Holiday lights our neighborhood (such as they are). As Samuel observed when we went to the market in Donji Grad (our neighborhood): "well it's no Rockefeller Center!" Still it is nice.
We miss you all and thank you for your support.
