The Reformed Church in America
The Reformed Church in America has the distinction of being the oldest continuosly meeting denomination in the United States. It was established in New Amsterdam (now know as New York!) in 1648 by Dutch settlers.
The RCA is comprised of 1000 congregations having about 250,000 members. It is a participating member of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. It has a legacy and commitment to the formal education of its clergy for the benefit and sound discipleship of its members.
The Reformed Church in America with the other denominations in the Reformed-Presbyterian family find their roots in the theology of John Calvin. Calvin's theology insisted on a strong connection of the Word of God and the Spirit of God. This understanding was linked with an emphasis on the Sovereignty of God and the Grace of God extended freely to humanity. Reformed and Presbyterian polity are both based upon "rule of the elders."
